Tantra massage — what it is, what it isn't

Tantra massage is a form of bodywork — not a sexual service. It draws on tantric breathwork, presence and energy practice and applies them to full-body touch. It typically involves nudity and may include intimate touch. It is not, in any legal or ethical sense, an escort or adult service.

The honest description

A tantra massage session usually starts with a clothed conversation: what brought you, what you're hoping for, what's off-limits. You are given time to undress in private and lie face-down. The session is unhurried — typically 90 minutes to two and a half hours — and is structured around the practitioner's tantric training rather than physiotherapeutic technique. Genital touch is included in some practitioners' work and not in others. Either way, you should know before you book.

What it is not

  • Not sex. Ethically practising tantra massage practitioners do not offer sexual services to clients. They do not have sex with clients. They are bodyworkers, not escorts.
  • Not "happy ending" massage. The genre of massage that uses "tantra" as a euphemism for sexual services is something else entirely — usually unregulated and often coercive. It is not what the named practitioners listed on this site do.
  • Not therapy. Many tantra massage practitioners come from therapy or psychology backgrounds, but a session is not therapy. If you are working through trauma, work with a registered therapist alongside (or before) you book.

What it is good for

  • Coming home to your body after a long period of stress or numbness
  • Repairing a difficult relationship with touch or intimacy
  • Learning slow, present-based eroticism that you can take into your own intimate life
  • Working with grief, shame or armoured tension that lives in the body

What it costs

Expect €150 to €300 for a 90-minute to 2.5-hour session, depending on practitioner experience and location. Anyone charging significantly below market rate without a clear reason should be questioned closely — same as you would with any professional bodyworker.
